Long Distance Love

I never believed in love at first sight until
I saw you. Days later I learned that you
felt the same. We had a whirlwind romance
and got married two months later from the
day we met. We fell madly in love and we
were inseparable.

That all changed the day you got drafted
to go fight for our country. I didn't want
you to go. I became anti war instantly .
But I lost the battle, you chose war over me.

My heart was no longer in my chest, it was
over seas fighting for a war I didn't believe
in. Your letters were my only ray of sunshine.

Days turned to months, months turned to
years.I didn't know if I could survive another
day without you. My lonely nights seemed
like an eternity.

I will never forget when you returned to me, I
was so empty inside and missed you so much.
You saw me staring into nothing and took me
into your arms and my heart started to beat for
the first time since you left.

That my love was the happiest day of my
life. We've been together ever since.

Alexis, That touches a chord because my wife and I lived on letters for too much of our early marriage. (We never got the instant satisfaction of email.) Then, too often, our hearts started beating again at reunion. Very true, what you depicted. Thanks, Dave

Wow Alexis, this was heart touching and then heart breaking and heart touching again. I don't know if this was fictional or not but regardless. I don't know how I would hold up in a situation like that. the fact that she waited says so much about the love that she felt. This was absolutely beautiful.

This one is excellent Alexis. The greatest loves in our lives will often be those we never see coming.

Hi Alexis, what a beautiful poem, reminds me of when Peter went to Vietnam, wasn't quite like that, but some of it was, so lovely and sad at the same time, long distance love would be very hard but in a lot of cases it works, good luck in the contest Alexis and I hope you are well, take care.....Vera
