Lone
I’m not afraid of dying alone.
She said she wants a man who will keep her awake;
She fears these days of growing old.
She tries to care about the men who stay,
Because she must marry one someday.
There is love at first sight,
And then there’s a time for you to open your eyes.
I won’t be your wife;
I haven’t decided if I want to be alive.
I wake up and wonder where all meaning went,
Only to realize that meaning does not exist.
Hell is not so bad considering I would have all eternity
To come to grips,
With how insignificant humanity is.
But instead I wait here for the end.
And you wait for a man;
A martyr for the emptiness at hand.
When we exist, instead, to understand.
Now life is just this envelopment
Like skin over bone;
She said she doesn’t want to wake up alone.
There is no god
To crack open the sky;
There is no eternity
To earn, to abide.
And no one will be there to meet you at the gate;
We all die alone in our very own way.
