Live In Fear
The storm brews in the horizon’s recess
Wind draws cloud from dark sky’s interior
My old boat on the turbulent river tosses
Hopes the destroyer doesn’t strike sooner
I live in fear.
Rains come in torrents from leaking space
Water descends in fury on the valley near
My frail house struggles to stand in place
Hopes the deluge doesn’t come sooner
I live in fear.
Intolerance spreads like a deadly virus
Distorted minds’ threat on faces appear
My trust on the brink of looming menace
Hopes the violence doesn’t start sooner
I live in fear.
Disease terminal strikes the mortal blow
Hope doesn’t build hope in resigned despair
My body knows its vulnerability isn’t low
Hopes the knock doesn’t sound sooner
I live in fear.
Time takes life from one end to the other
I can see the defined edge of time clear
Sense the signs of the unknown void near
Hope the night’s footsteps don’t fall sooner
I live in fear.
