Little One

….cause I do miss her
Her short height and temper
Her small hands and big hopes
And that’s where I come in
With hands big enough to hold her hopes and keep them safe
She always felt so safe with me
And we would walk for hours
Talkin’ about
This and that
Life or death
The meaning of it all
Her meaning to me
My meaning to her
And what we would do if one of us
Should ever forget it
God forbid we ever forgot it
God forbid we ever lost it
And in the summer she lay looking up at me
Her eyes dark pools of memories
And whispers
Can we stay like this forever
