Little Blond Boy

Setting is Germany 1943 Seven-year old wide-eyed Little blond boy four foot three Loves the freedom of running outside Life is grand he cries out with a smile Naïve to the ways of the world Blissfully happy and without guile Oblivious to the fates suddenly unfurled For little boys with dark colored hair While he greets every sunrise with bliss Innocently carries on debonair Blind to toxic prevalent prejudice Letting grown-ups do what they do Trusting they have best interests in sight Ignorant of mankind’s vices askew Of the extent everything is not alright Just a sweet little blond boy Naïve to the concept of injustice Full of dreams and hopes and pure joy In his heart not an ounce of malice AP: Honorable Mention 2021 Submitted on March 19, 2018 for PREMIERE CONTEST 135 sponsored by BRIAN STRAND (inspiration: John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas)

Very moving, Line. I sometimes feel that we have learned nothing since 1943. I will have to check out the movie,

The book is like a poem in prose.

Awwww...while I haven't yet seen the movie, I've read about it and your depiction shows great imagery of those awful events.

A very nice description of him. I saw this movie you mention. It was REALLY good. I am sure it inspired many poets as it did you.

I read the book in one bite - the subtlety of it was heart wrenching. I can't imagine how they would make a movie with the same finesse.

So many children caught in the cloud of hate. So many stories on all sides. That movie was great and so frightening at the end!

So true. I loved the book and recommend it highly - I'm sure the movie produces a very different effect - I have not seen it and almost prefer to remain with the feeling of the book within me.
