Lips After the Cigarettes

"LIPS AFTER THE CIGARETTES" she's next to me with her head on my chest as the rain outside the window above us falls. we're full of beer and cigarettes. I was the man who kept it moving, the man who kept going after being destroyed inside another chapter of ashes that fell to the floor and you were the woman who carried the blank expression, the woman seeking much more than routine and wonder as the leaves fell to the floor behind you. you are the life brought back into a painting after years of isolation inside the irony of hell's depths, my hands grab your breasts, my finger circles your belly button as we laugh underneath these race cars, I kiss your forehead, you kiss my chest, we fall deep into a mold long forgotten. we run down the roads we lay before us, roads we've walked and walk cringing with tears and disgust at every moment our soul broke. here now, the gods have given us a hand to play, here now, the gods have given us a shot outside the bulls-eye and yet, the rain falls as we hold each other in darkness and we love it. music plays outside our door, our frozen feet touch each other's, the dog barks, the garage is closed, this combination of peace came fast but steady. we breathe and wait for what has torn us apart separately, we breathe and wait for what has made us whole once again.
