Writer's note:
The bold can be read as an independent poem.
To linger in your arms is but a shadow of how you linger in my heart,
for when you depart you steal a small piece of me,
though you think I don't know, each time you leave
I feel something missing inside of me,
and like the flower that lingers in your hair your image lingers in my mind.
Keep them. They are yours freely given by me.
A token to be cherished to be caressed between your finger tips.
Hold each one gently, they are fragile, they will break.
How I wish our time together could linger in to eternity,
where we could share each stolen moment
and remember the joy of us together,
and each golden smile that you give to me,
but my one lingering regret is that
each shining part of me that you have taken,
each curious little trinket that is alluring to you
will be stored in your heart and soon forgotten, and
you will never allow me to linger in you.
