Lilah of the Lilacs

Like violets were her eyes when first I spied the lady with a sweet child’s face who peeked at me from bushes that she stood beside, alluring Lilah, beaming, apple-cheeked! And so it was that more and more I found myself among the lilacs in that place where first we’d met, that I might hear the sound of Lilah’s laugh and glimpse her angel’s face. On fragrant garden paths we knew the thrill of blossoming affection. Poetry was time we spent! But when my love fell ill, the autumn of our bliss was not to be. . . I visit Lilah now where she’s at rest nearby the lilac blooms she liked the best.

Beautiful and touching, poetic and sad. I love the assonance of Lilah of the Lilacs. Wasn't she your favorite pet, or was that Callie?

You wrote this as I would have written it. By that I mean in a kinda archaic way, a very poetic way. With a feel of affection for the words. This, like some of mine, requires a bit of effort on the part of the reader to find the rhythm. Simply put, this is the way I like poetry to be written. A very good write Andrea! (and a very pretty name)

I love apple-cheeked and how you described her - can really feel the love and admiration in the voice and word choice - should be a classic students study! excellent piece :)

I wish I knew a girl like this, she sounds like she's from heaven. I dreamed about a girl like this when I was only seven. I poked my head into the brush to see if she was there. But bees attacked and from that time, I never twice did dare. Hi Andrea, this is so beautifully sad. Have a lovely day.
