Like weather when she changed
Her smile looked like a lily’s daylong grace
That hinted of her heart ever at home,
Her face early spring’s pleasant warmth did trace,
Her smile joining the heart, me to welcome
And stayed put all the time I was with her--
A welcome guest fit to get warm sunshine
That melted my reserve to modest bare,
Not just polite manners, she looked genuine--
After a spell of rains as is sunrise,
And so all things the same as ere remained,
The same old smile, the same inviting eyes,
Notso gave me hints of impending rain,
Of her restrain, swift change as weathers do,
Was she a mere kind heart? I’ve not a clue.

Note: When plain good manners perhaps were mistaken for love, or something that she was unable to share with me, this sonnet laments.
