Light the Night

Sunrise peaks through the curtains Of a room long sealed from light A place where day was banned And all it had known was night The night had come to linger And day would feign appear Only to hide its sunshine in the clouds And rain that followed near The day had become scary The sunshine, just too high It never came low as the moon It never lit the sky So night became a refuge I hid within the stars They gave what little light they could Before they traveled far And still I looked for sunshine I hoped for light of day I wished for the sun to rise, To rise and dry the rain away Looking through the curtains now As the light streams through I can't help but wonder If that bright day will be you
