Light Scratches

I met you in town the other day
Over laughs and casual gazes.
My lips cracked, my heart
Filled with giggles, and I stared
Into the pillows of your eyes, thinking,
When are you going to make your move?

I want to know what you think
Under the five o'clock shadow
That teases my kiss with a light
Scratch every time your lips
Meet my cheek. I wish
You would sway a little.
I wish you felt as I do,
For I would work at any length
To know more about you,
To make you happy,
To earn your trust,
To keep your sake
And keep you smiling.

You smile
And tell me that I am beautiful.
All I am is beautiful,
And all I want to know
Is why you keep scratching me.
