Life Lost

Cold eyes, look back on the truth of yesterday
the road of growing youth, smiles in delight
with dreams of false promises
God will look after you, God will take care of you.

Yet the mothers heart is broken, when her son dies
how can God, take you from me
did I not look after the sick, did I not try, to heal the poor
how can you do this to me

The mother looks back, at a broken field of dreams
lost faith, lost child, lost soul
At night you sit with broken sleep
unable to fathom the truth

your mind a whirl, of bargaining thoughts
pleading for, the return of your son,
God why did you take him
I'm his mother, why did you not take me

Anger competes with defeat
your emotions swirl through a rampant gale
a storm of emotional turmoil
the rage of broken nights

the swaying walk the forgotten flick
sometimes you're walking down the street
and something reminds you of him
a smell, a taste, the football game

forgotten words from the past
why God why did you do this to me
Yet death would not be, the same to God.
To us it's the end of life

The broken heart and lost love
yet for him its a open door
a life of open arms ready to embrace
your lost child a guide to better living

Death to us is the end of life
yet for God its the road to paradise
death happens, cancer, heart, accidents
It just happens, it's not God picking on you

people eat to much sugar
and build fat up around the arteries
people smoke encouraging cancer
people drive when they are drunk

accidents happen
being a good person does not protect you
from suffering, suffering happens
good people lose their children, sometimes

Good people make bad mistakes
Good people go through grief
positive thinking is a good thing
but you have a right, to feel your pain

It takes time to rebuild your faith
religion teaches you that God will protect
but when you lose your son
or go through divorce

when you suffer that broken heart
it takes time to heal time to understand
time to grow and build a greater faith
a faith that expands for greater understanding

believing in God does not protect you from pain
good and bad people suffer in wars
good and bad people get cancer
good people paid with their lives

So you, can walk down the streets of freedom
We have to learn about slavery
To embrace the gifts of Abraham Lincoln
three hundred thousand American men died

Giving their lives to end slavery
if we destroy the past we forget the hero's
they won the battle to end slavery
its up to us to defeat racism
