Life is a Song

Ever-changing, life is a song.
In our childhood, often it’s sweet.
Age emboldens us; it grows strong.
Elation will quicken its beat.

Like rock and roll our teen years go.
Ever-changing, life is a song.
Romantic ballads soft and low
flow when love we hope to prolong.

But our song can’t stay soft for long.
Hard rock a hectic life can seem.
Ever-changing, life is a song -
not always the song of which we dream.

The tunes that define us we choose.
There’s really no right or wrong.
Sadly, some hear mostly the blues.
Ever-changing, life is a song.

Oh my, this is such a heartfelt poem for the contest, dear Andrea.. So beautifully you've described vivid emotional symphonies that adorn this song of life, it can't be soft and serene all the time, sometimes it's like a rollercoaster of high pitched notes.. You've impeccably expressed that in this wonderful write.. Absolutely love it! Heartiest congratulations on your gorgeous win in the contest, so well-deserving.. Sending you light & many best wishes, always :)

Dear Andrea, this is so heartfelt and moving how you’ve written this in such a seamless manner with rhymes and refrains that just flows so well together, i especially love how you’ve written “ Romantic ballads soft and low flow when love we hope to prolong.” So profound and so resonating. Also “ There’s really no right or wrong.“ something i always say and agree with when it comes to music wnd choosing our soul genre! This has a touch of wisdom too, Congratulations on your well deserved win

I like how the more serious and somber elements creep in gradually over the poem. As with life itself. Real nice Andrea.

There are definite periods in life where musical genres reflect our thoughts and desires. I remember our first toyish record player and the silly songs my sisters and I played. It was a blue cabinet structure. First listening to rock and roll on a transistor radio. Then getting a record player and amplifier and listening to a variety of Jazz and Classical. There are so many genres.

Well, I ask my husband what song he likes best from the 70's, our high school days. His answer; "I don't know" He honestly doesn't know song titles or lyrics, yet he listens to country music when driving. Good grief.

Wonderful... I hope my song, instead of the blues, is one of joy and hope - inspiring the hearts and souls I meet as I sing on. Love this, Andrea. Love you and God bless you too. Gina
