Life In a Child Eye - Part Two

Am sited in a corner of our house,
It is a day I wished never came,
And the dawn never broke,
To give way to another morning.
I wish the gates are held together,
So that those men never get in.
They came with gifts in their hands,
To ask for a hand in marriage.

Am young, too young for marriage,
Am only twelve years old,
And he is seventy years old,
Old enough to be my grandfather.
They say it’s our culture they follow,
But they don’t care about my dreams.
I have a dream bigger than all of them,
But they say am just a little girl.

They took me out of school for this,
And first they took me through hell,
A kind of hell they call circumcision,
They say it is a pathway to woman hood.
For many days I was in pain,
To women I became one of them.
They forced me to move to places,
But I could barely walk, I was in pain,
The pain of being mutilated.

Am a girl who dream larger than life,
But they say to me education is a waste.
They don’t believe in girls and their power,
And say we are their investment for wealth.
As a girl am worried for my sisters behind.
I wish the day never came to be,
When the world turns against me,
For this grandfather have no mercy.

Listen to my plight and rescue me,
All I need is someone who understand
Am in pain, so much pain, a lot of it,
To see my destiny being decided for me,
And my young life taken into waste.
As a girl wish the world can treat me so,
And the greed don’t overtake my rights
Rights which I should enjoy.
