There's nothing left, no reason to stay.
I know it's time to walk away
Never again will you make me cry,
I 've found the courage to tell you goodbye.
But first there's something I must do,
collect the last memories of me and you.
I need to find an empty box,
one I can seal with tape and locks.
I need to put away so many things,
pictures, cards, my wedding rings.
valued keepsakes, I used to treasure,
the sight of them brings me no pleasure.
I should just throw this stuff in the trash
watch it burn until its turned to ash.
But in my mind there'd still remain,
those bits and pieces that caused me pain.
In the box is all that's left of us
of a marriage covered in cobwebs and dust.
I'm letting go and walking away,
but I've decided the box will stay.
I've no need of reminders of what we once had,
those insignificant remnants of a life we shared.
Put it in bed where I used to lay.
It's heartless like you. That's why I'm walking away.

"...and in the end, letting go was a lot like falling in love.
I had to learn to say goodbye to the one who gave me
the courage to say hello."
