Letting Callie Go

A full year it grew as dear Callie cat endured that stinking cancer. Night screams came, which pierced my heart. Only then could I let go. . .

Sorry for your loss...I endured that with our first dog Gucci, it was brutal, not a journey for the faint heart...

When ending suffering is the best that we can do. In God's mysterious ways, that's how he helps us through. May there be healing in our comments. Peace. :)

Very sad, Andrea. Our 'Snowball' had to be put down a couple of years ago due to similar problems; it (he) was 17 years old. [wrote a poem inspired by your form, similar, but with no rhyme..."She was his"] // paul

Hi Andrea. This is such a heartfelt poem you have written about a family member that you had to let go. Our pet truly do become a loving part of the family. It brought back memories of our little cat that we had to let go last year. 21 years old and still refusing to leave her family behind, such a sad time. Thanks for sharing, my friend.... Robert.

I remember a cat we called Kizzy. It was Sunday and the vet's office was closed. During the night poor Kizzy was screaming and groaning. I felt so guilty for not taking her in sooner. I got up at 1:00 a.m. and phoned an emergency number so I could get her put to sleep. I'll never forget it. LOve, daver

This is a tearful tanka...it's awful when we know they're suffering, and making the decision to put them down is heart wrenching. I still miss my little dog, Sweet Pea. She was with us more than 15 years. hugs, Rhonda

I assume Caillie was a pet. We have a tiger cat, Twiggy who is hanging on day by day. She will still eat and that is why we keep her alive. I think she is miserable, but how does one tell with animals whether they want to live or die. Your poem is truly heart rending. I know so well. Love, daver
