Let Us Be the Things of the Night

I only want to exist when the sun goes down Let us be the things of the night When the dull sunshine dies and coughs And the moon comes out to fight I don’t want to be shoved into a mahogany frame Nor painted with cakes and faces Let us run wild in water color rivers And run as the horizon chases Please don’t let me become the girl Who sleeps and sits and stands Wake me when the stars are high And the shadows stain our hands Let’s do something strange In the twilight hallowed mirror That others may not understand When the point is always clear The point is to breath in the night The point is always love Human beings bore me so Let us instead be stars above The others they cry, and blinded they cough Over money, work and sex I beg we set that world aflame And swim in childishness When the sun comes up so do their masks Then we will sleep through all their light I only want to exist when the sun goes down Let us be the things of the night
