Let Go of the Past

How many hours do you spend with the dead?
The mementos, the tears, the words unsaid?

Holding to the past, so unfair and unforgiving.
Let go of your feelings of compunction and reliving.

So many await your presence with dismay.
Forgive yourself, turn your heart to today.

Love yourself, for in caring and giving you grow.
Your loved ones need you today, you know.

How many hours do you spend with your kin?
Meals together, outdoor games, a shared grin?

Hold to your memories, they’re always with you	.
They’re portable, don’t collect dust, never too few.

Cherished moments are never forgotten, but freed
To move on, not fettered by human remorseful greed.

Live for now–for those you love, and who love you.
For tomorrow comes sooner and lonelier, it’s true.

So glad my family, friends, and I take time for one another. And now during this pandemic, people sit at home perhaps pondering what they haven’t done. Great write!

Yes, we too, take time for one another. There was a time when I had a job that would take me away, sometimes months at a time. It's nice to be close and always accessible now. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
