Let Freedom Ring

Let freedom ring across the land For truth and justice take our stand Let the traitorous insurrectionists see We stand for true American democracy. Let our Grand Ol' Flag always wave Above the home of the free and the brave For those who fought for the rights we employ And guard the freedoms we still enjoy. Do not fall for any senseless conspiracies Drivel festering like malignant disease Threatening to destroy the truth we know With gross, misleading lies from a foe. What good could replace our liberty And make our beloved land satisfactory To those who would rip our nation apart Flinging aspersions into her very heart. Soon we will celebrate another 4th of July May we never trade the truth for some lie Or fall for farfetched fanciful blathers Forgetting in the meantime what really matters. written May 24, 2021

Here, here! Enough of the 'Insurrectionists.' Enough of 'Antifa.' Enough of 'The Proud Boys.' Enough Portlands! Let us stand up proudly for our nation. Couldn't agree with you more, Milt. :) gw

My daughter is a vet, and she feels like you do. " What good could replace our liberty And make our beloved land satisfactory To those who would rip our nation apart Flinging aspersions into her very heart."

Well put my friend. But remember. Truth is like poetry and nobody likes poetry. Stay well and continue your writing excellence.

Thank you so much, David. Yes, I hear you, but he who remains silent during difficult times contributes to those times. I shall not belabor my points, but occasionally I shall make them, somewhat forcefully!

Great read, Milt. Has the feel of a reaction to a specific current event, but I’ve taken it as a call to arms against naysayers, interlopers and ne’r-do-wells. Works any which way. Terry

Nope, not "a reaction to a specific current event," but to all of the current blather, lies, and traitorous behavior. I will speak out every time I feel our American democracy is endangered. Thanks for the read and your comments, Terry. I appreciate them.

Fantastic Quatrain Milton, the feeling of nationalism combined with splendid wording and imagery place your poem at the top of my choice; whatever we write to recognize the people who penance their essential life to safeguard the values of our foundation, our opportunity, and democracy is insufficient. Thanks for sharing

May we never trade the truth for some lie. May we always live honest and true til the end of our days, never be cruel to another, and love as best as we can. :)
