(Fame is a fickle mistress)

Fame is a fickle mistress
No one ever owns her
She comes and goes as she pleases
And has no place to call home
Don't get attached to her allure
Don't ever mistake her affections
Once you get caught up in her gaze
You may forget that you're a person
She flits from here to there
Delighted by the attraction
She loves the gorgeous bright lights
Whenever the spotlight is in action
But remember that the spotlight
Gets hot and uncomfortable
Everyone needs space and guidance
Solitude to nurse their soul
If you don't take time to heal
Your ardent desire for fame and glory
You might get caught up in a vicious cycle
And be brought down to your knees
You need to be surrounded
By genuine friends and allies
You need to keep grounded
Accept that you're not on a pedestal
Remember, no one is successful on their own
Everyone has their Tenzing Norgay
When traveling up your Everest
A team is better than solo
Fame remains a fickle mistress
And be grateful that she kissed you
For behind her trails so many people
Whose fame became a memory
Focus on enjoying your journey
The passion and pleasure in your craft
Be kind and considerate and respectful
A legacy of character built to last
