Leaving Love Behind

As the leaves fall and the seasons change
I'm finding it hard to believe
That once again, two hearts are divided
Not only by the miles between
But by the sides of a painful realization

Caught in a similar predicament
Here I am, wavering back and forth
Wanting to hold on
And wishing I had the courage to truly let go

At this resurgence, I made a pact with myself
Refusing to go through the same devastation
Promising myself that I would not succumb to the struggle
No matter how much it destroyed or berated me, by leaving love behind

I made my feelings known
I explained my reasoning
I surrendered to protect my heart
And then I said goodbye...
