Marc Chagall, Le cirque bleu, 1950-52

Le Cirque Bleu The spotlight is aglow through the gloam The light an indigo ink modifying color She swings her body with agility thrusting backwards upside down, with unseen wings, an acrobat aerials amid the roar She looks pretty with her fan in one hand, long tresses flowing loosely A circus horse made of jade below makes eye contact and an interconnection Without movement they are in an eternal trance, In the deep dark yonder the golden helio appears Fiddle and banjo play for the opening adagios act La Nouba Her leotard tightly invokes, red with flower imprints Statuesque, still in time showing off her physique and impressing spectators from below the fliers' pedestal From above the nets, with ease, she imagines a world where gravity defies, and animals and objects fly Flights of fancy within the flying trapeze flights of fancy an indigo trapeze ~ from above jade nets, an ease

Anaya, the words you use make me think of a course I took on anthropology, where so much credit comes to those who can describe what is in front of them. You have such talent and skill, that it makes me humble with awe. I am not jealous but rather just amazed and pleased to be able to read and smile!

I read that Chagall is your favorite painter, I think he is marvelous, and all his rich history influences his work. Ty Kim! I noticed the fan in many of his paintings, still I wonder what the fish represents. ;)

I'm delighted that you enjoyed, maybe you'll find time to watch the video, it's very interesting, Chagall a Russian Jew, painting, then the French influence, and preferred the company of poets! Ty, Daniel. I always appreciate your reviews! Blessings~Anaya

You used descriptive words creatively here Anaya. A world where we defy gravity would be coolish, if but for a brief moment in time

Interesting review, ty Tommy. At the moment News about Space Shuttle Stuck In Space...you Tommy should know the gravity of the situation!! bing.com/news NASA keeping astronauts stuck in space 2 astronauts have been stuck in space for months. How they get back to Earth is the biggest safety decision in decades.

Considering your Parisian pedigree Yann, I am particularly obliged by your kind review. Marc Chagall born Moishe Shagal was a Russian-French artist. An early modernist, associated with the École de Paris. Ty!

A dreamy, unfettered ecstasy, you describe in this head over heels flight of fancy. Loved the metaphor of the indigo trapeze, up and away burdens lifted. Joy abounds, Robert

Chagall arrived from Russia with "a ripe color gift, a fresh, unashamed response to sentiment, a feeling for simple poetry and a sense of humor” Notions alien to Paris at that time, as a result, his first recognition came not from other painters but from poets. Chagall began thinking of art as "emerging from the internal being outward, from the seen object to the psychic outpouring" the reverse of the Cubist way of creating.

I gave her a monoku, haha ! Ty you so much, SO! I couldn't NOT give an ekphrasis I like how she does, she makes the meaning hers. This painting compelled me to do so ;) it's okay if I don't score. Marc Chagall is a good study. btw, I don't know why I was thinking monoku is 19 syllables when it's 17.
