Lazy Summer Days

The trees clap hands as the birds gaily sing The hope and joy that the new day will bring. The redwing blackbird in the cattails hymns. The fish keeps beat time as it jumps and swims. Above clouds swim past in an ocean blue. The sun warms the green grass and melts the dew. The honeybees whiz past on their business Passing by flowers in their accismus. It is a good day to drift in the grass And watch dainty butterflies as they pass. Out in the tall grass the grasshoppers buzz. The wind blows past the dandelion fuzz. I remove the stalk of grass from my teeth And dozing, pillow my head on the heath. I have not a care in the world it seems And my mind is only filled with good dreams.

Dear Lanier, as I’m sat here hot with a fan on, I have so enjoyed this delightful, visual and dreamy read on a summer’s day. You have poetically captured so much, ‘ Above clouds swim past in an ocean blue ‘ - gorgeous imagery. The poem draws the reader in to share all that summer has to often and it’s a tranquil read. I can so easily picture the scene - the sights, the sounds. A pleasure to read this lovely quatrain today. Thank you for sharing :)

Thank you for the wonderful complement! I am happy that you like the poem. Perhaps this was a response to the all too common bitter negativity I see in so many poems nowadays. I remember days of my youth when we could go outside and lay in the grass in the sun or under a tree and just soak up all of the goodness God's creation had to offer.
