Latent Heights

If one refuses trials that test the soul,
Content to walk where comfort draws the line,
The mind grows small, its vision dulled by ease,
And dormant strength lies buried, unexplored.
For challenge is the fire that shapes the will,
The weight that teaches muscle how to rise;
Without resistance, purpose learns no form,
And latent gifts decay in silent dark.

We do not know the heights within our reach
Until we strain against the pull of fear,
Nor hear our truest voice till doubt is faced.
So growth demands the courage to endure,
For only those who dare their limits learn
What greater selves await their becoming.
