Late In the Midnight Hour

I am Midnight Because late in the midnight hour Is when I gain my power I grab a pen And let the turmoil within Escape. Giving relief to another caper, Another day in the life Of a single black mother Trying to live Without strife But instead Striving to be Something better something more Not for me But for they that rely on me My boy and my girl Late in the midnight hour Is when I gain my power I let the tears flow So much its like a thunder shower As the river of my soul starts to overflow I hear God’s voice I feel HIS touch I know He loves me so very much He tells me “My child, I know this is hard, But nothing I give is to much to bear. Scream all you want I’m always here.” And as I cleanse my soul And slowly gain control I know it’s only HIS hand I can hold Late in the midnight hour Is when my God My Lord, My Savior Gives me the power With HIS endless grace and mercy After cleansing me To go another day Pick up another toy Share another joy Wash another dish Receive another kiss Have an argument and fight Squeeze my babies really tight Late in the midnight hour Is when all us Single mothers Gain our power.
