Lamb To The Slaughter

Gentle tributary of a hill-born river suburban lake caressed acres of fertile land - paddy rich, growing fields Schools of fish raced at depths water-birds, herons, egrets, warblers, mynas, pipits, swallows, shikra, barbets, owls Bowl that held varied lives The surrounding city rapidly scales cloud- heights, as skilled strategists, land grabbers, investors, policymakers, now take her on a ride The silenced birds, once family to the lively-living lake, their provider, now watch from a mile, her being led like a lamb to the slaughter chemical sewers, toxic algae rotting froth, foam, fumes engulf volatile, fire-prone, wasted, water body stands scrapped A stilled lake, beyond repair

Thriveni, this is a great poem that would've placed high in my previous contest. It's a bummer you didn't submit it in time. There's still plenty of time left if you wish to participate in my current contest, my friend.

Excellent telling of the sad demise of a stilled lake. It is a sign of the times; nature is abused, abandoned, then abhored because of the mistreatment. Nice simile- a lamb to the slaughter.

Dear Poet, What a graphic pictorial image of environmental destruction based on man's greed you have penned. I read some where we are expected to lose a billion species. Tragic..

You are right dear poet, we are to lose them. Also half of 117 million fresh water lakes on earth are near dead! 'Live Science' reports. Tragic as you put it, thank you for your kind visit dear friend. Thank you.

Nice poetic depiction of the sad state of environment in many countries. When would we be aware and act?

we give no chance to Earth to bounce back to her glory dear poet. She is blessed with 117 million lakes, yet governments are frantically searching for water traces in Moon & Mars. This is just about one single lake. Sad indeed. Thank you for your kind visit and time dear poet. Thank you.
