Notes About The Poem

Mother And Child by Pablo Picasso 1902  [Blue Period]

Labyrinthine Maternus art by Picasso

She is the life source, a vital essence
maternus unwavering vow
instinctual guard and guide
from conception onward, no end
in her arms an eternal bond
a babe’s birth right, his light
when asked for a sign by the night star
a glimpse of beauty a moment no less
and when ether’s smoke rises afar
She’ll lift him toward the dark vastness

Complimenting the mother’s essence, & its symbolism

Anaya, your words describe a wonderful mother figure. The world would be better off if people like what you describe had more influence over the society at large. Sending smiles!

Dear Anaya, such a solemn beauty in the way you frame motherhood, part vow, part ancient instinct, ceremonial. I like how the poem moves from the intimate beginnings to that final gesture toward the dark sky, as if she’s offering him to something larger than either of them. Fitting for Mother's Day! Blessings, Daniel

Daniel, Ty! The symbolism of 'Mother' yes, I'm moved that it is a good fit for Mother's Day, as I should have contributed sooner. Enjoyed your review. Warmest blessings
