Labor: Before, During, and After

Labor: Before, During, and After

Work squatted, brute and plump, before him.
Work said: ‘I’ll be here all day; I’ll eat your food,

Drink your beer, smoke your pipe.
I’ll languish while you carry me.”

Labor replied: “Suit yourself my friend,
I will pave the roads and erect the buildings

While you languish on my back.”
Labor carried work proudly,

Each and every day,
But grew weary as time went by.

Work grew fatter and fatter
Eating labors food and

Drinking labors beer.
One day, work jumped down

From labors back.
Labor never even realized it.

Labor continued walking,
Hunched over, like it still had work to carry.

Work said: “I am leaving you now.
You are all used up. You will

Never see me again, but I’ll
Bet you will continue looking for me.”

WOW! I just read some of your poetry, and am impressed. I can never express myself that way. I am more of a story teller, and do not consider myself a poet. My MA is in History and that is where my heart lies, but I love poetry and usually after reading a bunch of it I always get the feeling to pen a poem myself. It was nice of you to cheer my "poem". Thank You.

I don't really think of myself as a poet - more of a hack who likes to express himself poetically from time to time. I take it seriously, but realize there is a lot more to it than I will probably ever learn to be more than just a beginner. I am glad to be your friend.
