La Si La Do
LA SI LA DO
The ancient ship cruises 44 nautical miles
Into the sea,
To the 'Cape of Good Hope'.
Miles cruised, some miles ahead
And the coast glimmers in the horizon.
(La vie est comme ca)
Life is like that.
No, the ship doesn't want to be ashore
Into 'desert of vast eternity',
Into Marvell's 'marble vault'
Laid out for angles to decide,
Or in the Hades,
To drink from the myth of man.
In my prostation to God
My humbleness to men;
In the month of Victory,
Another score in the sea
Has just begun
La vie est comme ca
(Life is like that)
My 'frail vessel' carries all
The rapture of 'mineral firy'--
LA SI LA DO;
The ascent and descent of cadence
Moves too and fro,
Through glint of 'good hope'
And 'bad dream'
LA SI LA DO;
In cadence and concordance
LA SI LA DO --
Moves the tale of life
Too and fro
