Knoxwood Reverie
Soon now the myrtle rose bloom again
And bright heliconias below the window - pain
Conduct the choir of honey bees
To disrupt the wood doves sad refrain.
Soon now the golden lilacs adorn the hill
And hummingbird dance on air
Dogwood burning the atmosphere fill
From the limekiln's impomptu fair.
Soon now Dudley gaze at the distant haze
Above the Retreat Mountain
And climb through guinea grass to raise
His calabans without counting.
Soon the peanut planters come to crowd
The mongoose in the pingwing path
With dogs and shouts that echoed loud
As man and nature vent their wrath
And yet the days I missed the most
Was when we walked upon the shore
And watched the waves frolicked the coast
The way we did in love before.
