Knowing Kelly

The name Kelly means "bright-headed",
according to the internet.
A fine attribute that doesn't quite describe me yet
because, you see, I could not go to college
and be properly taught.
I came from a poor background
where a good education could not be bought.
So, I have no choice but to write from the heart,
it's not perfect, but it is my form of art.

My first name is Irish, though my ancestry is German.
Just to make sure, I looked it up on Wikipedia.
I am shy, so you're not likely to find me
on any form of social media.
I am very careful when I choose a friend,
they have to be someone who I can trust and depend.
My friends know that I'm loyal, and when I listen, I hear.
I will always be there for them,
through every smile and tear.

When I'm not writing my hobby is photography,
which inspires new words from the beauty I see.
Often you will find me reading alone in my room
with classic rock music turned up on high volume,
or watching an old movie filmed in black and white
whether it be a comedy or a thrilling, silent fright.

I am no one's wife and no child's mother,
and I never had anyone to call a sister or a brother.
I was a lonely, only child, and I am still,
an empty shell that only poetry or love can fill.
I work at a factory job on the graveyard shift,
being a true night owl causes my mind to dream and drift.

My middle name is Robin, which means "bright-fame"
though, I am not here just to play the fortune game.
I am known to be sweet in the comments that I write,
yet, my poems can be sad and as dark as the night.
I guess this makes me a mystery to many of you
but, really read me and you will discover the clue.

Glad to finally meet you all over again, my friend Kelly, we share much in common, I grew up with the brady bunch clan, but felt completely alone being the last born, everyone much older then me, a creature to be tormented instead of loved or cherished. I was alone most of time and hidding, so I hid until like matilda in the movie have you seen it, that's me all over, lol well I love old black and white movies also, classic rock, rocks my cradle handle, and writing is my thing also, cheri

Yes, I have seen the Matilda movie and I relate to her, as well. Books were always there for me when I needed a friend, just as writing is now. It is nice to know more about you, my friend, and I am so glad we have so much in common! Thank you once again for taking the time to read my work. It really means a lot to me :)

I enjoyed reading this one again. I relate because I too did not get to go to school beyond Highschool. It is good to discover your voice through writing, I have learned much about myself and others through this pursuit. P.S. I do not find you dark!

No, it doesn't take the best education to be a good poet, just a little heart and soul. You are proof of that, my friend... I don't know what I would do without poetry. It has filled a void in my life by allowing me to be myself... I'm truly grateful for your kind words, Rick. Thank you!

I don't believe an education makes you a good poet. You can be taught poetry or you are a natural poet who writes from the heart and that is my favourite type. You are a natural Kelly. Congratulations on your win.

I think that all poetry must come from the heart. No matter what form you write in, the subject should still mean something to you... Thank you for the lovely comments, Brenda. They really meant so much to me.

Thank you for your nice comments and kind congrats. I appreciate it very much, Rhonda!.... I'm happy that you've enjoyed my poem and could identify with it. Writing has really allowed me to express myself and I think it can help me to overcome that shyness. I like having that solitude, as well, especially when I am writing!

I have never been able to put together your poetry and how you describe yourself. Your avatar and words project a strong, educated, confident, leader. Most of all intriguing. The kind of person one would love to meet for a coffe just to talk. That being said Congratulations on your win with this great write.

Thank you for the kind compliments, Maurice. They really meant so much to me. It would be nice to meet for coffee someday!... I think those who are naturally talented are always humble, and will never admit to their abilities. While others who study and work so hard to evolve their talent always seem to be arrogant.

Moved by your words on so many levels. It seems our living often bleeds into our writings and some in marvelous ways. If we were all the same... how dull poetry would become. Nice to meet you and congrats on your win !!

Yes, I think that poetry would become boring if we did not write about our lives. Each of us are unique, so that keeps things new and refreshing constantly... Thank you very much for your nice comments and the kind congrats. It is nice to meet you, too, Debra!
