Notes About The Poem

for Edward Ibeh's  'This or That, Vol 28' Poetry Contest, Oct. 31, 2024

Kingdom Come

Kingdom come, but I first must die
Thankfully, life here does not last.
Though pain and grief can make me cry,
one day they’ll all be in my past.

Some sorrows seem like forever.
Kingdom come, but I first must die,
and this is my hope, for never
can I stay as when I once was spry.

Some plans of mine have gone awry.
Slower do I walk than before.
Kingdom come, but first I must die.
Then – and only then – will I soar.

It matters not my bones get old
because I know one day I’ll fly
to where God’s glory I’ll behold.
Kingdom come, but I first must die.

I hear you and love your faith but why am I afraid of death. I love God and know Christ. I studied Biblical Studies as one of my Majors for my BA degree and took it one step further and for my Hons. degree wrote my thesis on the Spirituality of the New Testament , some time ago now . I haven't been to church for three years, yet i loved going and taking communion, i felt the spirituality. I cant see a a passion play without crying and am emotional when singing any Christmas Carol - so WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, why am i STILL AFRAID. Dear friend Andrea, don't be in a hurry, better days will come, I AM SENDING YOU ALL MY LOVE, Jennifer.

I am a pessimist deep down who wears a happy face. I really believe the hereafter is going to be so cool. I will miss life but unless I die a tortuous death, I don't fear death like I used to. I think age and pain brings one to this realization.

CA should not drop into the ocean, otherwise we have to move to Utah. Nice poem.

I have this theory that once the "big one" hits CA, there will be a ripple effect like dominos falling down across the nation . Back in the 80s they were claiming a big earthquake was due in Utah within 25 years. Now we are well past those 25 years. Something disastrous is coming and the whole world will feel it eventually. But we can't know exactly when!

thanks, Karen . Days can get difficult and I am comforted by thoughts of seeing those who passed before me and living with no more pain.
