King Sun and Queen Moon

With one big bright eye, Sun, King of the sky,
looks down on us, but not always mellow.
In summertime, he shoots rays from that eye,
sometimes so mightily, grass turns yellow
or streams run dry beneath the King's stern stare.

His queen, the moon, shows not so mad a face.
She takes his place when night's cool fills the air.
She rules among the shining stars with grace,
for she is beautiful. La Luna's light
seduces lovers. Moonstruck we may be
when she shows forth her full face in the night.

Although her beams are soft, power has she!
She pulls high tides toward her. Unlike the sun,
she takes no credit for Sun's glory days.
Eight phases she goes through. A timid one?
Perhaps she's simply got a woman's ways!

Ingenious personification! You've put up a mirror to make people see things they normally see in a different way! Congrats and bravo, Andrea:-)

True! I believe women like the moon spread light and blessings without taking any credits. Love the metaphors Andrea. Congratulations on your splendid win :)

Love the "woman's way" at the end and the pulling of the tides; you can never take the teacher out of the teacher Andrea.

a woman's wiles? Yes, quite right, the moon IS trickier than the sun! Good luck in the contest! Aloha! Rico

Andrea, I was hoping I would see a personification of Sun and Moon from you, as you excel in this. Another wonderful write, beautiful in it IP, thoughtful in its musings of the Sun/Moon relationship, and ending on a clever note. Best wishes in the contest (which appears to be closing soon) ~ John

I too have personified the sun and the moon as king and queen in a poem I wrote long ago, but yours is far beautiful, short and sweet, love the twist at the end:)

They have their own special place in our heart. Well said, Andrea:... sometimes so mightily, grass turns yellow or streams run dry beneath the King's stern stare...
