Kindergarten Teacher

Kindergarten Teacher

Kind when she shares her bologna sandwich.

Imaginative when she has to use Q-tips to teach.

  Nurturing to teeter totter injuries.

Daring when rescuing an mystery object from the toilet.

Earnest when explaining this adventure to her principal.

Responsible for helping 23 children put on 23 coats and getting all 23
  to the bus on time.

Gentle when covering boo-boos with impossible to open bandaids.

  Aimiable when greeting parents.

Resourceful when finding uses for 75 popsicle sticks.

Tactful when explaining Timothy's new permanent marker freckles to
   his mother.

Energetic when chasing a dog off the playground.

   Nose blowing expert.

Talented when using a pipe cleaner to replace a lost shoe lace.

Elated with a new set of blocks.

  Afraid of itchy heads.

Capable of jumping rope in heels on the playground.

High spirited when there is a snow day.

  Excited about caterpillars.

  Ready for nap time!

I work at a school, and teachers need our thoughts and prayers (and poems). You never know which hat you will wear at any moment of the school day as a teacher. This is an awesome salute to all teachers (our unsung heroes).

That was my favorite line too. I am covered with those Irish brown spots, which are now turning into those wretched age spots. Yuc! Thank you for your nice comment. :)

You had me laughing out loud especially about the freckles lol. I used to help out in a reception class and can relate big time, then I went on to work with high school children with additional needs. going to add this to my faves, so glad you are reading Caren's poems she is an incredible lady in so many ways and I love her humour:-) hugs Jan xx

I love this acrostic, Marikate. My daughter teaches 1st grade, so I had to send this to her. I imagine after jumping rope in high heels, that's how you got your "Black patent leather flats" (lol) Great write!

Gosh, you just made me feel proud. I hope your daughter liked it. I'm sure she could relate to some of it. I bet she's terrific. It was an exhausting job, but to me so much fun. I taught for 20 years and would go back to it in a minute.

Such a terrific Acrostic that covers so many of the bases a kindergarten teacher touches. I am sure that you were a creative, much loved teacher, Marikate. Congratulations on such a funny, fine poem! Brian

We just don't appreciate teachers quite enough, do we? The things they have to know and deal with are numerous indeed. I enjoyed this.

That is a nice thing to say. Thank you. I do admit I loved my job and enjoyed going to work everyday. The children would say the funniest things to me. A child named Allison once looked longingly at my black patent leather flats and remorsefully said, "Oh, Mrs. Kingston, you are soooo lucky your mommy lets you wear your party shoes to school" :)

I'm deeply honored for meeting you Miss Marikate. :) Teaching is a never-ending journey of trails and sacrifices, inspiring the young children dreaming and living in the world of fantasy. Strength to you in this magical world!

What a wonderful thing to say. I loved everyday I went to work. Sometimes I felt like the mommy of 23 children. I have so many darling stories that still make me laugh and so many meaningful experiences I hope to always remember. Play, freedom for expression and critical thinking opportunities are very important. Again, many thanks :)

Thank you Paula, I enjoy your writes as well. This poem speaks from experiences I had over the years. So many more I hope to always remember. Always ready for nap time, even now :) One of my all time favorite children's books is titled, The Napping House by Audrey Wood. Thank you. :)

Thank you. It's nice to be called clever :) For a few months my mind's been a tabla rasa. Hopefully that will change soon. I am trying to write different types of poems, but some I find tough. Thank you for your nice compliment. I will keep plugging along. :)

Cold and flu season. A 'germy' time in a kindergarten classroom with 20 five year olds! I saw a funny shirt once and almost bought it to wear to school. It read: "I have an issue with your tissue" Funny. :) : ) :) Thank you for calling my poem"exquisite" How very nice of you!

That is a very nice thing to say. Children are wonderful to teach. That's not to say they are sweet and easy everyday, but there are so many ways that are clever and important to handle trying behaviors, and when you see success in that particular child, it is so worth it. Thank you your nice message :)

Thank you Robert. We have to have the patience of a saint sometimes but I loved my job and everyday was excited to come to work. Not every child was perfect and sweet, but when you are able to solve a child's behavior without a curriculum guide :( It was so worth it ) Merci :)

Why, thank you. I must confess that I don't think that ever happened, but there were certainly many others, like the permanent marker experience that did. Sounds like you were a teacher too I bet a terrific one

Ha, ha! Bullseye, Marikate. And btw, most of this captures Poetry Soup's own Caren Krutsinger, who's been teaching Kindergarden for a long time. I recommend you try her website. I think you may enjoy it!

It was absolutely wonderful. I have been at my computer for an hour, commenting on her funny poems about everyday things we all can relate to in some way. It was kind of you to tell me about her writing. She has become one of my favorites on Poetry Soup Thank you.
