Kenya

The wages of sin is death, they say
Here, it is power without say
More sin, more power
We learn nothing, they earn everything
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.

We have a shorter way,
Something from nothing,
Maybe through innovation,
Maybe through education,
Maybe through conservation,
Maybe just invention
Of great ideas like m-pesa,
Or create quick earn-schemes,
Lucrative and curative enough they appear,
Laugh to the bank then disappear,
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.

Why spend hours thinking,
If you can think for us,
And thinking creatively,
Creates here in Kenya,
Like create a need and,
Make it a crisis,
Quail eggs,
Sugar,
Maize,
Open the boarders,
Kill Mumias
Kill Uasin Gishu
Laugh to the banks,
As levels of mercury rise,
Killing our organs,
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.

A commission of inquiry,
For a defunct commission of inquiry,
The spiral continues,
Life continues,
Life happens,
The gap widens,
The pain deepens,
A generation rises,
An uprising,
Chanting and singing,
Without fearing,
Not consulting,
Not insulting,
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.

But

Justice be our shield and defender
Practice that will root out every pretender
Deal and delete every blunder
And regain the glory of this wonder
The 'Pride of Africa'
From Maasai Mara to every place that matter
From the Big Five to the wild beast migration
Migration into integrity
Integration
Protection
Mitigation
Education
Conservation not observation
Constitution not dictation
Safeguarding not gate-keeping
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.

Expect and experience Kenya;
From freshness of lake Victoria
To the salinity of the Indian ocean;
The agility of the Kalenjin,
The enthusiasm of the Luhya,
The enterprising of the Kikuyu,
The hospitality of the Mijikenda,
The kindness of the Kamba,
The communal of the Somali,
The smiles of the Samburu,
The pride of the Luo,
The beauty of the Borana,
Beauty in diversity
Even in adversity
Like it only happens,
Here in Kenya.
