Keepsake
Keepsake
A faded velvet box in lilac hues
Protects a heart forged in priceless gold
Like secret caresses of a new love
Precious gift of commitment – never old.
A faded photograph – sepia tones -
Beloved faces – no wrinkles of today –
A locket graces a youthful neckline
Vows of eternal love – a wedding day.
A faded memory – love ever young
Still lives beyond the dusty greys;
No tarnish dulls the bright recollections
Of two hearts intertwined in yesterdays.
Faded days breathe again - heart reopened –
Gift for a wedding day – new love spoken.

This poem is about the gift of a locket from my grandfather to my grandmother and now to me.
