~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I met you many years ago – in a church
where we were learning to be more than kids,
more than just our parent’s mistakes,
more than little girls – but women who would
one day, pray…
for husbands who would love us deeply,
giving men who believe in Him,
honest souls who are gentle yet masculine,
vibrant men who provide and protect,
blessed men, who we could believe in.
I met you all those days gone now, in a church
where we became, somehow – friends
even when our hearts were in doubt,
when we felt lost and alone, without a hope,
we shared, in a way…
the need to let go of what has gone
to learn to listen to the love, the love of God
who feeds the weary soul, lets the beloved know
there is hope in those who hear – His words
invaluable and overflowing with love.
I met you and I discovered that you, too
could see the shadows, in the skies so blue
you could see the poetry in the truth, the dream
something beautiful in each of Jesus’ miracles,
a breathless hue of friendship’s music.
but what I really needed from you I never found
I needed a friend that would always be around
A friend to my heart, a friend to my soul
Someone whose faith would one day make them whole
A friend, I soon found, that you would not be
Because, a friend, my dear – would believe in me!
