To lie’s always wrong, Kant decreed. Very few were convinced by his screed, Seeing if he’d instead Held a gun to their head, They’d have shamelessly said they agreed.

hmm, I am not up on political things much but found a Kant on Google back from the 1700's. It wasn't that one, was it?

Yep, that's the one. A philosopher, not a politician. He believed in moral absolutes, including the idea that lying is ALWAYS wrong, even lying to a murderer in order to save your life or someone else's. (Needless to say, most people including me think his view on that was a little extreme. :-) )
