Justice For Jonbenet

Jonbenet Ramsey, child beauty queen
Found dead in the basement of her family home
Photographs showed an expression so serene
To this day the perpetrator unknown

To solve the case, police questioned a neighbor
Her parents were placed under surveillance
Suspicion also cast on a jealous brother
But justice for young Jonbenet? No chance

This mystery has gone unsolved for years
Fingers have been pointed in all directions
After Jonbenet's death, child pageants drew jeers
Many crowns she won; scant time for celebration

Perhaps her killer will be identified
But time passes; hopes continue to fade
For her death, will anyone ever be tried
Bleached hair, painted nails; she was in first grade

Another tragic death which might remain unsolved. Your poem points to several probabilities, Diane, but putting children in the limelight could draw the attention of child molesters, etc. ~ Congratulations on a merited podium finish! Warm regards // paul

I remember reading about this tragedy, lets hope one day they can find out who killed this little girl. I personally don't like the idea of the pageants ,let them be children and not mini adults, I didn't know about the bleached hair that is quite bizarre:-( congrats on your win:-) hugs Jan xx

Who will ever forget about the tragic death of little Jonbenet? My sister was in pageants as a child, but times were different then. Bleached hair on a six year old just seems so strange to me. Congratulations on a great second-place win in a contest with very strong competition! Best wishes for the holidays, Carolyn

Diane, Was the mother in all reality, I think, by her unholy disires to see her own failed accomplishments become manifest through her daughter. I suppose the mother over used the cattle prod to motivate the daughter to proform. Money has silenced the truth. Interesting mystery piece. Agape, Moses

Great poem. It still pains me, as her mother died without knowing who killed her daughter... or did she know? Well done. Lee

Perhaps it had nothing to do with her being a beauty queen but it likely is. I felt so bad for her parents when this was going on. congratulations on your win. Love, Joyce

gosh, her hair was bleached for those pageants? This is one of those things that will always haunt us. It's so strange how they cannot figure out the killer. Don't you hope all these many mysteries will be revealed to us one day! Congrats on your win. Luv, Andrea

You're right, Diane, the more time that passes the less hope we have that Jonbenet's killer will be found. I don't like having bleached hair and painted nails on six-year-old girls just so they can compete in pagents. Great write! Congratulations on your success in the contest. Love, Carolyn

A sad story indeed. All the sadder in that the killer has not been brought to justice. A well-penned piece. Thanks for visiting me and reading. Regards, Robert.

I am so glad that the family was cleared with new DNA testing that is available..They said on the news that it was a unknown male that did the crime..Sad that she died such a horrible death..If the person that did it ever gets in a position where they have their DNA tested, the law has the evidence to match up with the offender..Thanks for stopping by with the kind review..Sara

It's like Marilyn Monroe or who shot Kennedy, one of those things a mystery people will remember for many years to come. An interesting topic to write on, Diane!

This was so sad. It takes someone like you to keep her memory going. It is completely out of the news. Her mom died right after she was eliminated from suspicion didn't she. So very bizarre. Why don't you just pick a poet whose poems you like and write that you would like to meet her. Might jsut give it a try. Thanks for your comments. Love, Joyce

A very well written piece. Doesn't this make you wonder why they have not found her killer? And it is as bizarre as little Kaylee Anthonys death. Maybe Johnny Carson was right. "We can go to the moon but we can't open a bag of potato chips"...really sad...thanks for your post....
