Just Stopped By

Seems like a long time since we’ve had a talk
Wasn’t in a hurry, so I just stopped by
I don’t get up this way too often
Don’t mind me, sometimes I cry

The kids are fine, they’re all grown now
They get home every now and then
Still talk about Grandma’s house
Sunday visits way back when

The years go by so quickly
Seems like yesterday you were here
I still have the memories
Of the days I hold so dear

I’ve been married to your daughter now
For over forty years
She stayed with me through the hard times
I guess we had more smiles than tears

I’m going to stop to see my mom
She’s resting over there
I’ll be back another day
When I have more time to spare

I just stopped by to say hello
And visit my mother while I’m here
Lay some flowers on your graves
Say a prayer and shed a tear.

Wow...this one caught me off guard. My husband and I both came from the same small town .... and when we go back there, and visit our familycemetary, so many graves....so many loved ones...parents, aunts and uncles, so many with whom we have that same little "conversation"....it does feel like they know we are there. Very touching poem...wonderful sentiment, Vince. ~
