Just Down the Road
It
was but
a dirt lane.
Berry bushes
skirted it. Beyond
were grandpa’s fields of grain.
Just down the road was the barn
and framed yellow house with white fence -
home to my mom’s parents, now dead, like
memories that too soon will be buried.
