Junk
the stern of the junk
stuck out like the tip of an iceberg
surrounded by plastic bottles
filled baby’s nappies
flip flops and crocs
we can walk on water
whatever floats our boat
sustainable climate change
the hotter the better
while the orchestra
plays water music
the instruments so swollen
that tunes at supermarkets
sound like Vivaldi’s Four Seasons
finely tuned with fog horns
in the mist of consumption
nobody could deny the benefits
of genocidal screw tops
and the plasticity
of the human environment
that kills plunders pillages
but provides conglomerated life rafts
from wasted resources
fortunately the manufacturers
had chosen their logos carefully
for lost posterity
credited by TV crews
and hailed as the saviour
life rafts for a few dollars
the ship’s captain
was the last to disembark
an honourable leader
gathered his flock
for a final solution
I’ll switch off
the lights of the planet
save energy
and wait for Atlantis
environments change
buts his pleas
were submerged
in stupidity
when most folk tried
to hang on to champagne flasks
and perfumed decanters
as they claimed
they were only following orders
selection was easy
the last laugh was on
hobgoblins and rats
who sharpened their teeth
and punctured the reprieve
