Notes About The Poem

Listen to poem:

Judge and Jury

life has somewhat
calmed down now that
I’ve bowed out from the rat race
and officially finally retired

I’ve learned to disentangle myself
from the merciless mundane madness
I don’t miss that old hamster wheel
always spinning out of control

I’m now at peace with myself
I’ve become my own jury and judge
questioning my every choice and decision
to ensure they fall in place with my master plan

the voice of my conscience keeps me
aligned and on track as time trickles away
ultimately I know I’m not really in charge
but I can at least be master of what I can

one day I know I’ll be facing my Maker
and there will be no sanctioned excuses
down to my very core I’ll want to be proud
of what I’ve done and become

Congratulations on your win. A beautiful write. I Love It. We have all been on the "hamster wheel." And going where??? Your ending is so true, when we face the Maker will we/(He) "be proud of what I’ve done and become???" I Hope So. Enjoy your retirement and your win with blessings.............

It is a perfect space to be in, Line! Centred, calm, tranquil. Yet, our inner journey continues, as awareness reaches to subtler realms, within. Congrats on your win! Look forward to your participation in the next contest, MINDFULNESS.

Oh I do love this Line. I feel you are echoing my very thoughts though I have as yet not retired. I have spent the last couple of months recouping first an appendectomy and then a broken hip. I think God was just telling me to slow down a bit before I kill myself. lol Great job here. God Bless, JB

Heya Line, a terrific write here, reminds me of Invictus, by William Ernest Henley, indeed you are your own master, and it must be indeed a blessing, to be at peace with yourself, I’m guessing hard work and meditation has paid off, I wish you a happy retirement and good luck in the contest, cheers David
