Jubilee
Jubilee
I live as a child of the season when the world outlines
A silhouette of itself,
When glittering stars rest on barren branches
Uplifted and rejoicing
In the playful sparkle
Cast
Upon nights that do not welcome
Dawn;
In the shadows of this time,
I take a holly branch into my hands,
A legacy from the children of seasons passed,
Raising it
To light my footsteps
On the path across the shortest days
To waltz in festival with the Spirit
Who guards these precious hours
From all consuming blackness
Every circling into its icy heart;
And in the midnight
I chose to stand watch against the darkness,
Stand with the twinkling Spirit made evergreen,
Wherever I may find it;
To celebrate
In the face of all that seeks
To crush
The brilliant source of this golden radiance
Glowing in jubilee;
To raise my voice, to join the rejoicing song
Echoing between moments that pass away
And distant gates of dawning;
Reaching –
Always reaching –
To the Spirit
Who sings
And dances
In triumphant jubilation
With eternity.
