The Lady of Shalott, the most famous painting by John William Waterhouse, 1888, oil on canvas. A scene from Tennyson's Poem by the same name. John William Waterhouse, English Painter, born in Rome, 1849 - 1917 . He painted in the Pre-Raphaelite style, scenes of daily life, and of mythology.  He loved to paint women and he did that beautifully.
