Jimmy was an only child Henrietta’s only son She had built him up Lavished him with praise Told him how handsome he was He had always believed it There was nothing humble about him This had cost him two wives and several jobs He was trying to be more down-to-earth He is still fighting self-vanity But he is almost tolerable now
