Jewel

If at dawn,
in the first splash of infancy,
the cherub falls to the floor like a dead orchid, maternal
blood shall stain the symbol
of creation, a man
alone
without wisdom,
love,
or self-reflection,
is duly disunited from the root of truth,
“communication;”
the jewel
that brands us human.
