Jerusalem, the Jugular - Part Three

I carried on to butcher with precision and pride for 5 hours
saving the lives of a Centurion and 6 other Brothers,
and rescued the Standard of Legio V Macedonica from being burned,
I actually sealed my chin wound with the hot metal of the Standard,
for these acts of valor I was awarded the Corona Civica, and a lifetime of " Night Terrors ",
sometimes I think I died in the ruins of Jerusalem,
sometimes I feel like I'm still there, fighting for the taste of honor or for the " smell of blood "
many of the captured Jews were used as slave labor to construct the Collosium,
we made a death sport arena of Jeruselum, but there were no spectators cheering
no audience to applaud the agony of two cultures in a death match,
maybe we are all meant to be gladiators, fighting to make noble graves and pyres -

J.A.B.

These three poems, intended to be one composition, have been entered into the
Roman Legion Contest to honor Ancient Rome and the Poet who sponsered

Read all three before I commented. You hold all man's actions up to the light Justin and say look, see, feel this..and I look to see if you give an answer in your work..and all I see are more questions mirrored in history. I love that..the fact that you leave it to the reader to look within themselves for the answer..no not ask..insist. Your work slaps us out of apathy and into the arena. Well done

Your response to this Roman compostion is a remarakable reward for my efforts Craig. I desire to raise the reader's awareness of how they view and define their beliefs, education, and actions. To create visceral Art, spiritual Light through the inspiration of Providence, Nature, Love and in History is always the objective. Thank you Craig. Thank Deity for Rome. J.A.B.

Grand finale! Questions that are left for one to ponder on. Great questions, Justin. Sometimes we lose sight of what the fight is all about. I know...world views are sometimes so skewed depending on where you were born. A better day is coming...so, I believe. A better world. I know it's true. I just wonder if I'll be there.

Bless you, my dear. It's hard sometimes. Things get me down. I will try to be a positive influence. I believe I achieve that with my students. I was just told that my name is one of the few most mentioned as a favorite teacher here at the university, so I try...to share loftier dreams and goals, but one can only do so much...especially when there is inner turmoil. Thanks for the thoughts.
