So true. It was like a punch to his gut to part with a single coin. Of course, that was all faked. Benny was actually a very generous man, and also devoted to his wife and family. Unusual even back then in H'wood. Btw, he was the highest wage-earner in the USA in the 1930's, hauling in $55k a week for his 30-minute comedy radio show...during the Depression. Pretty good for a high school drop-out!
