Notes About The Poem

I've Never Seen a Firefly

I've never seen a firefly.
No, I've never looked one in the eye.
I don't know why.

Could it be
because of the place I live, maybe,
that I'll never see

a lightning bug?
So, I look down and shrug.
I think I need a hug.

This is adorable. I LOVED seeing fireflies in my youth. We chased them and caught a few. I was so surprised to arrive in Utah and not able to see them any more. They must love corn fields and high humidity!

I guess they're not too common in the west. I've never seen them here in Southern California.

Thanks, Ink. Fireflies also send light, just like you - lol. I've heard lots of people say how cool fireflies are. I have to put fireflies on my "bucket list"!

HUGZ. I am sure your firefly dream will not hinder your wonderful prose.

Haha, thanks. I just started watching a DVD of the movie Grave of the Fireflies. It looks like it's going to be a really good movie!
